Alipurduar subdivision of Jalpaiguri district in West Bengal is known as the gateway of North-Eastern states located just few kilometers away from international border of Bhutan amidst picturesque greenery, crisscrossed with rivulets, rivers, forests, tea gardens and hills of Western Dooars. The area is extremely backward, isolated, inaccessible where poverty is endemic and characterized by the population of diverse ethnic groups residing mainly in Tea Gardens and Forest Villages mostly dependent on natural resources for livelihood. Swayambhar took the challenge to make the people ‘Swayam Nirvar’ i.e. ‘self reliant’ and steps in to actualize the vision by assisting people from backward marginalized section of the society, mainly tribal’s, minorities and women so that they can lead a life with dignity, without discrimination and suppression. Under the guidance of legendary sector expert Dr Manab Sen and renowned gender specialist Dr. Suparna Ganguly, a team of seven women with a unique blend of experience, expertise, sensivity and professionalism took the leadership and Swayambhar begins the journey....
